With all the food rules, it can feel like our
significant others (among other others) are keeping us in cuisine
jail. And who better to express that than
a carnivorous hunter, wondering if "dinner" is crumbled
sheetrock?
| FOR ONCE
IN MY LIFE |
FOR
ONCE IN MY BOWL |
FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I have
someone who needs me Someone I needed so long
For once unafraid I can go where life leads me
And somehow I know I’ll be strong
For once I can touch What my heart used to
dream of Long before I knew someone warm like
you Would make my dreams come true
FOR
ONCE IN MY LIFE I won’t let sorrow hurt me Not
like it’s hurt me before, oh For once I have something
I know won't desert me ‘Cause I’m not alone
anymore
For once I can say This is mine, you can’t
take it Long as I know I’ve got love I can make it
FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I’ve got someone who needs me
|
FOR
ONCE IN MY BOWL, I'd like
something organic. This crud here is fat-free,
of course;
And some super-model, bulimic and
manic Might love it--I'd rather have . . .
horse.
This looks like some junior high
school science project-- That got an
incomplete. The word out on the street Is--this
stuff ain't safe to eat.
Tofu or not tofu --
if that's the question, You've got this cat's
answer for sure: Eating the unknown upsets my
digestion; It's poison--this excess
of pure.
So please, won't you
cut all the crap and the kibble? Toss me a scrap
-- but do not make me nibble. FOR
ONCE IN MY BOWL: Give
me something that looks whole.
Oh, I know you mean well, but hey, it's
amazing! Tell me--did this grow on some heath?
Do you think I'm the type gets a kick out
of grazing? Have you had a look at my teeth?
Now, really, this comes from some lab
in New
Jersey,
Where a bunch of white-coat geeks Worked for weeks and
weeks To make fake beef
from...leeks.
FOR ONCE IN MY
BOWL, won't you put something down here
That's starkly
and nakedly food? Something that says, hey, come
on, go to town here; Something that's juicy
and--crude.
Ah,
cut me some slack; give me back what I dream
of-- The stuff with the flavor and savor and
steam of
some cuisine with soul-- JUST
ONE TIME IN MY BOWL!
[ Etc. . . .
